How to write a script

Screenwriting is first and foremost a set of techniques and skills that can you can learn with experience. So, it’s a job that’s accessible to everyone, no matter what some people want to say. Here are some tips on how to write a script.

1)     When you write a script: play with expectation

No matter how well it unfolds, a good story starts with a good hook. And a good hook is a good question. Nothing more, nothing less. Your hook should pique the reader’s curiosity and force them to ask the question: What’s going to happen?

2)     Divide in three

Write your story in three acts. Indeed, the pillars of a screenplay are these three acts. Each act should be able to work independently, and when they are put together, the story should make sense.

Act One: This is the foundation of the story. Introduce your world and your characters. Act Two: This act is the main part of the story. The protagonist encounters obstacles in trying to resolve the conflict. Act Three: In Act Three, you resolve the story. Since you have already established the story in the second act, the third act is much faster and condensed.

3)     Write a great hero

Don’t make the mistake of defining your hero only by their appearance. A hero is first and foremost a being who impacts us. As a viewer we latch onto the problem they are experiencing and want to see them somehow solve that problem. We call this transformation the transformational arc or transformation of the hero.

4)     When you write a script: answer your question

Each story asks a question, and carries a point of view on a theme. Also, as an author, your story must not be in vain. So, you must have a personal point of view on a subject. The theme can be: brotherhood, love, family, regret … However, there are as many themes as there are stories.

Basically, the movie business is extremely competitive. You may have the best idea for a movie ever, but if you havent formatted it correctly, chances are it will never even be read. That’s why you need to write a script that at least has a unique point of view.
